Continuing Education Event Grievance/Complaint Policy

The Olsen Institute at Pacific Behavioral Healthcare is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association's (“APA”) Ethical Principles of Psychologists, as well as the standards of the American Association of Sex Educators Counselors and Therapists (“AASECT”).  The Olsen Institute at Pacific Behavioral Healthcare will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants.  The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Continuing Education Planning Committee Chair in consultation with the Grievance Manager, Program Coordinator, and the members of the Continuing Education Planning Committee.

The Olsen Institute at Pacific Behavioral Healthcare strives to be vigilant in assuring fair treatment for all presentation/workshop participants.  However, although we attempt to anticipate any and all challenges, we understand that some concerns or grievances may occasionally come to the attention of the convention staff which require intervention and/or action on the part of The Olsen Institute at Pacific Behavioral Healthcare.

In such an event, the following procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such issues:

  1. The person with a grievance will first try to informally resolve their grievance by contacting the Olsen Institute at Pacific Behavioral Healthcare (*See contact information below) with the issue concerning the training, its delivery, the evaluation method, or technological issue.

  2. If the aggrieved person is not satisfied with the resolution through informal means, the aggrieved person shall put their grievance in writing to the Olsen Institute at Pacific Behavioral Healthcare. The Olsen Institute at Pacific Behavioral Healthcare will then consult with appropriate personnel that have approved or otherwise participated or presented the course to find fair methods of resolving the grievance.

  3. If the aggrieved person is not satisfied with the solutions put forth, the Continuing Education Planning Committee will review their complaint and respond in writing within one month or no more than two weeks following their next regularly scheduled meeting. Individuals will also be reminded that they have the ability to contact CE parent organizations, (i.e., AASECT, APA) if they feel their issue was not appropriately addressed. The appropriate AASECT personnel can be reached at . The Olsen Institute at Pacific Behavioral Healthcare will abide by any decisions from the organizations regarding resolution of the grievance.

These actions will require that the Olsen Institute at Pacific Behavioral Healthcare personnel document actions with written notes, documenting the grievance, the process by which it was resolved, and the final resolution for record keeping purposes.  The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.
